## Biography

John Brabourne (1924–2005) was a British film and television producer. He began working in the industry in the late 1940s as an assistant production manager and became a producer in 1958. His early credits include *Sink the Bismarck!* (1960).

Brabourne produced Franco Zeffirelli’s *Romeo and Juliet* (1968) with Anthony Havelock-Allan. He later produced several Agatha Christie adaptations, including *Murder on the Orient Express* (1974), *Death on the Nile* (1978), *The Mirror Crack’d* (1980) and *Evil Under the Sun* (1982), as well as David Lean’s *A Passage to India* (1984). He received Academy Award nominations for Best Picture for *Romeo and Juliet* and *A Passage to India*.

He founded Mersham Productions in 1970 and served as a director of Thames Television and Euston Films. Brabourne was appointed CBE for services to the film industry and was a governor of the British Film Institute.
