## Biography

John Cameron is a British composer, arranger and conductor. Born on 20 March 1944 in Woodford, Essex, he studied music at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, where he performed jazz piano and was vice-president of the Footlights.

After university he worked as an arranger for Donovan, including the score for the 1967 film *Poor Cow*. His first film composition credit was for Ken Loach’s *Kes* (1969). Subsequent scores include *The Ruling Class* (1972), *Psychomania* (1973) and *A Touch of Class* (1973), for which he received an Academy Award nomination. He has also composed for television, including *Jack the Ripper* (1988) and *The Secret Garden* (1987).

Cameron provided orchestrations for the stage musical *Les Misérables*, winning a New York Drama Desk Award and a Grammy for the symphonic album. Other theatre work includes arrangements for *Honk!* and *Spend Spend Spend*.
