## Biography

John Carrafa is an American choreographer and director whose work spans Broadway, film and television.

He began as a dancer and assistant to Twyla Tharp before moving into choreography and direction. On Broadway he received two Tony Award nominations for choreography, for the 2002 productions of *Into the Woods* and *Urinetown*, and won an Obie Award, Lucille Lortel Award and other theatre honours.

In film he has choreographed more than 25 features, including *The Polar Express* (2004), for which he received a Media Choreography Award, *The Thomas Crown Affair* (1999) and *Let's Be Cops* (2014). On television he served as series choreographer for six seasons of *Nashville* (2012–2018), which he also directed episodes of, and for *Empire* (2015); other credits include *The Gilded Age*, *Only Murders in the Building* and *Westworld*.
