John Carter (26 November 1927 – 23 May 2015) was an American actor. Born in Center Ridge, Arkansas, he appeared in films including *Badlands* (1973) as the Rich Man, *Scarface* (1983) as Vic Phillips, and *The Hoax* (2006) as Harold McGraw. His other film credits include *The Andromeda Strain* (1971), *Joe Kidd* (1972), *Celebrity* (1998) and *Random Hearts* (1999).

On television he had guest roles in series such as *Little House on the Prairie*, *The A-Team*, *MacGyver* and *Law & Order*. He was best known for his recurring role as Police Lieutenant John Biddle on *Barnaby Jones* (1973–1980) and directed two episodes of the series. Carter was the brother of actor Conlan Carter.
