## Biography

John Crockett (31 January 1918 – 11 October 1986) was a British stage and television director. He was educated at Bryanston School and studied art at Goldsmiths' College before attending the Slade School of Fine Art and the London Theatre Studio to study theatre design.

In 1944, with his wife Anne Stern, he founded the touring theatre company The Compass Players. Crockett directed episodes of the anthology series *Suspense* (1963) and the soap opera *Compact* (1964–1965). For *Doctor Who* (1963), he directed all four episodes of *The Aztecs* (1964) and the fourth episode of *Marco Polo* (1964). He later taught art and drama at Downside School near Bath from 1969 to 1976.
