## Biography

John Richard Deacon is an English retired musician best known as the bass guitarist for the rock band Queen. He joined the group in 1971 and contributed bass, guitar, keyboards and piano to their recordings, as well as writing several hits including "You're My Best Friend", "Another One Bites the Dust" and "I Want to Break Free".

Deacon performed on Queen's soundtrack for the film *Flash Gordon* (1980). He appeared as himself in concert films and documentaries such as *Queen: Budapest* (2012), *Queen: Days of Our Lives* (2011) and *Live Aid* (1985). After the death of Freddie Mercury in 1991, he participated only sporadically with the band and retired from the music industry in 1997.
