## Biography

John Glenister (12 October 1932 – November 2024) was an English television director. He worked extensively in British drama from the early 1960s, directing episodes of series including *Z-Cars* (1962), *Play for Today* (1970), *The Bill* (1984) and *A Touch of Frost* (1992).

His credits also include the television films *Blunt* (1987) and *The Monocled Mutineer* (1986), as well as adaptations such as *The Six Wives of Henry VIII* (1970), *Emma* (1972) and *Casanova* (1971). He directed episodes of *Tales of the Unexpected* (1979) and *Hetty Wainthropp Investigates*.

Glenister's sons, actors Philip Glenister and Robert Glenister, both worked in the industry. He was married to Joan Fry Lewis from 1958 until his death.
