John Halliday was an American actor of stage and screen. He appeared on Broadway from 1912, notably in sophisticated comedies including *The Circle* (1921), *Sour Grapes* (1926), *Jealousy* (1928) and *Rain from Heaven* (1934). He made his film debut in the silent era and became a character actor in Hollywood sound films of the 1930s and 1940s, often playing suave or aristocratic figures.

His screen credits include *Peter Ibbetson* (1935), *Desire* (1936), *Intermezzo: A Love Story* (1939) and *The Philadelphia Story* (1940), in which he played Seth Lord. His final role was in *Lydia* (1941). He died in Honolulu, Hawaii, on 17 October 1947.
