## Biography

John Howlett (1940–2019) was an English screenwriter, novelist and biographer. With David Sherwin he co-wrote the original story 'Crusaders', which formed the basis of Lindsay Anderson's film *if....* (1968). He attended Tonbridge School and read history at Jesus College, Oxford.

His other screenwriting credits include the television adaptation of Len Deighton's *Game, Set and Match* (1988), *Murder of a Moderate Man* (1985) and episodes of *Doomwatch*. He also wrote novels and a biography of James Dean, and worked on various European co-productions.
