## Biography

John Jett is an American biologist, academic and former marine mammal trainer. He worked as an orca trainer at SeaWorld Orlando from 1992 to 1996, including with Tilikum.

After leaving SeaWorld, Jett pursued further education, earning a master's degree in environmental science from Oklahoma State University and a Ph.D. in health and human performance from the University of Florida. He later became lab coordinator in the Department of Biology and a visiting research professor at Stetson University.

Jett contributed to the 2013 documentary *Blackfish*, appearing as himself to discuss his experiences with captive orcas. He has spoken publicly on marine mammal welfare issues following the 2010 death of trainer Dawn Brancheau.
