## Biography

John Jympson (1930–2003) was a British film editor. Born in London, he attended Dulwich College and entered the industry as a runner at Ealing Studios in 1947. His father, film critic Jympson Harman, helped secure the position. He worked as an assistant editor before becoming a credited editor in the early 1960s.

Jympson edited films including *Zulu* (1964), *A Hard Day's Night* (1964), *Frenzy* (1972), *Where Eagles Dare* (1968), *Little Shop of Horrors* (1986) and *A Fish Called Wanda* (1988), the last earning him a BAFTA nomination for Best Editing. He was the original editor on *Star Wars* (1977) before being replaced. His final credit was *Mad Cows* (1999). He married Maureen Hemsworth, who worked in costumes at Ealing Studios, in 1954.
