## Biography

John Laing is a New Zealand film and television director and producer. He began his career as an editor and made his feature directorial debut with *Beyond Reasonable Doubt* (1980). He has since directed five further features and numerous telemovies, many of them crime dramas based on true events.

Laing has directed episodes of several international series, including *Hercules: The Legendary Journeys* (1995), *Xena: Warrior Princess* (1995), *Power Rangers S.P.D.* (2005) and *Power Rangers Mystic Force* (2006). His television film credits include *Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior* (2006). He has also produced series such as *Outrageous Fortune* (2005–2010).

Born in Dunedin, he studied at the University of Otago and worked at the National Film Unit before directing in New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Canada.
