## Biography

John McSweeney Jr. was an American film editor. Born on 26 August 1915 in New York City, he began his career at MGM in the 1930s as a payroll clerk before moving to the editorial department as an assistant. After wartime service, he became a full editor in 1952.

McSweeney edited numerous MGM features, including *Lovely to Look At* (1952), *Please Don't Eat the Daisies* (1960), *Mutiny on the Bounty* (1962) and *Viva Las Vegas* (1964). He received an Academy Award nomination for best film editing on *Mutiny on the Bounty*.

From the late 1960s he worked freelance on films such as *Me, Natalie* (1969) and *The Boy in the Plastic Bubble* (1976), and on television series including *Charlie's Angels* and *Trapper John, M.D.* He died on 19 May 1999 in Redondo Beach, California.
