## Biography

John Meehan was a Canadian screenwriter and playwright. Born in Lindsay, Ontario, he began his career as a stage actor before writing for the theatre and then moving into film in the late 1920s.

He received Academy Award nominations for Best Writing for *The Divorcee* (1930) and, with Dore Schary, for *Boys Town* (1938). Meehan wrote or contributed to more than thirty films between 1929 and 1948, including *A Free Soul* (1931), *The Miracle Woman* (1931), *Madame X* (1937) and *The Valley of Decision* (1945). He died in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, in 1954.
