## Biography

John Mighton is a Canadian playwright, mathematician and author. Born on 2 October 1957 in Hamilton, Ontario, he studied philosophy at the University of Toronto and McMaster University before completing a PhD in mathematics at the University of Toronto.

His plays include *Possible Worlds* (1990), which received a Governor General’s Literary Award for Drama, *A Short History of Night* and *Half Life*. He wrote the screenplay for the 2000 film adaptation of *Possible Worlds*, directed by Robert Lepage. In 1997 he played the role of Tom in *Good Will Hunting* and acted as the film’s mathematics consultant.

Mighton founded the JUMP Math programme in 2002. He has received the Siminovitch Prize in Theatre, the Chalmers Award and two Dora Mavor Moore Awards, and was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada.
