## Biography

John Mollo (18 March 1931 – 25 October 2017) was a British costume designer and writer on military uniform history. He designed the costumes for *Star Wars* (1977) and its sequel *The Empire Strikes Back* (1980), as well as for Ridley Scott’s *Alien* (1979).

Mollo won Academy Awards for Best Costume Design for *Star Wars* and, shared with Bhanu Athaiya, for *Gandhi* (1982). His other credits include *Outland* (1981), *Chaplin* (1992) and *Event Horizon* (1997). He also worked on the television series *Hornblower*.
