John Nicolella was an American film and television director and producer. He began his career as an assistant director on *Born to Win* (1971) and worked in production roles on films including *Saturday Night Fever* (1977), *Times Square* (1980) and *Easy Money* (1983).

Nicolella is best known for his work on the series *Miami Vice* (1984), where he served as producer on the first two seasons and directed multiple episodes. His other directing credits include episodes of *Crime Story* (1986), *Melrose Place* (1992) and *Dark Justice* (1991), the television films *Rock Hudson* (1990) and the *Vanishing Son* series (1994), and the feature *Kull the Conqueror* (1997).
