## Biography

John Payne, also credited as John Howard Payne, was an American actor. He made his screen debut in *Dodsworth* (1936) as Harry McKee.

Payne appeared in 20th Century Fox musicals and film noir productions. He played Fred Gailey in *Miracle on 34th Street* (1947) and starred in the television series *The Restless Gun* (1957–1959). Other notable roles include those in *The Razor's Edge* (1946), *Kansas City Confidential* (1952) and *99 River Street* (1953).

He began in stage work and received two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, one for motion pictures and one for television.
