## Biography

John Romano is an American screenwriter and television writer and producer. Born on 2 October 1948 in Newark, New Jersey, he graduated from Colgate University and holds a PhD from Yale University in English and comparative literature. Before moving to Los Angeles in 1986, he taught English at Columbia University and published the book *Dickens and Reality*.

Romano joined the writing staff of *Hill Street Blues* in 1986 and received an Emmy nomination for the series finale. His television credits include *Party of Five*, *Third Watch*, *Monk*, *Banshee* and *Hell on Wheels*. He created the series *Class of ’96*, *Sweet Justice* and *Michael Hayes*. Film screenwriting credits include *The Lincoln Lawyer* (2011), *Nights in Rodanthe* (2008), *Intolerable Cruelty* (2003) and *American Pastoral* (2016).
