John Seitz (1937–2005) was an American actor whose career spanned film, television and a substantial body of stage work. Born in Louisville, Kentucky, he appeared in more than 300 plays over four decades, with Broadway credits including revivals of *Sherlock Holmes* (1976), *Frankenstein* (1981) and Harold Pinter’s *No Man’s Land* (1994).

On screen he played Benny in the Coen brothers’ *The Hudsucker Proxy* (1994), alongside roles in *The Prowler* (1981), *Presumed Innocent* (1990), *JFK* (1991), *G.I. Jane* (1997) and episodes of *Law & Order* and *Law & Order: Special Victims Unit*. Seitz received Obie Awards for *Abingdon Square* (1988) and *Talk* (2001), and was recognised for his support of non-profit theatre and new playwrights.
