## Biography

John V.A. Weaver was an American poet, novelist and screenwriter. Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, he graduated from Hamilton College in 1914 and later studied at Harvard University. He began his literary career as a book editor at the Chicago Daily News and subsequently served as literary editor of the Brooklyn Daily Eagle before turning to full-time writing around 1924.

Weaver collaborated with director King Vidor on the story that became the basis for the screenplay of *The Crowd* (1928), on which he received credit alongside Vidor. He moved to Hollywood in 1928 to work for Paramount and contributed screenplays or adaptations to several films, including *The Adventures of Tom Sawyer* (1938). He was married to actress Peggy Wood.
