## Biography

John W. Holmes (12 April 1917 – 25 May 2001) was an American film editor. He worked on feature films from the mid-1960s to the early 1980s, with credits including *Goodbye Charlie* (1964), *The Only Game in Town* (1970), *Showdown* (1973), *Just You and Me, Kid* (1979) and *Popeye* (1980).

Holmes co-edited *The Andromeda Strain* (1971) with Stuart Gilmore and *Diamonds Are Forever* (1971) with Bert Bates. He received an Academy Award nomination for Best Film Editing, shared with Gilmore, for *The Andromeda Strain* at the 44th Academy Awards.
