John Whitney was a British television writer and producer. He wrote teleplays for two episodes of the first series of *The Avengers* in 1961.

Whitney created the series *The Informer* (1966–1967) and *Danger UXB* (1979). He also devised *Harpers West One* (1961–1963).

He was born on 20 December 1930 in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire, and died on 4 November 2023.
