## Biography

John Wray, also credited as John Griffith Malloy, was an American character actor of stage and screen. He performed in numerous Broadway productions beginning in 1913, including *Hamlet* and *The Merchant of Venice*.

Wray moved to Hollywood in the late 1920s with the transition to sound films. His screen roles included Himmelstoss in *All Quiet on the Western Front* (1930), the farmer in *Mr. Deeds Goes to Town* (1936), the warden in *You Only Live Once* (1937), and appearances in *Gone with the Wind* (1939) and *The Cat and the Canary* (1939). He died in Los Angeles in 1940.
