## Biography

Johnny Carson was an American television host, comedian, writer and producer. He hosted *The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson* from 1962 to 1992.

Carson appeared in archive footage in the 1983 film *Koyaanisqatsi*. He provided a voice for an episode of the animated series *The Simpsons* (1989) and was seen in archive footage in films including *Behind the Candelabra* (2013), *Won't You Be My Neighbor?* (2018) and *The Front Runner* (2018). He also had an uncredited role in the 1965 series *Get Smart*.

Carson received six Primetime Emmy Awards, the Television Academy's 1980 Governor's Award and a 1985 Peabody Award. He was inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame in 1987, awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1992 and received a Kennedy Center Honor in 1993.
