## Biography

Jon Mirsalis is a composer, pianist and film historian specialising in silent cinema. He has created and performed original scores for silent films for more than forty-five years, both live and on recorded releases.

His recorded scores include those for *The Mark of Zorro* and *The Phantom of the Opera*. He is also credited as composer on the 1915 film *The Birth of a Nation*. Mirsalis has contributed to film preservation, notably by locating the long-lost second reel of Laurel and Hardy’s *The Battle of the Century*, and is recognised as an authority on the career of Lon Chaney.
