Jonathan Hales is a British playwright and screenwriter. Born on 10 May 1937 in London, he began his screenwriting career in 1970 with the television series Manhunt and has also worked extensively in theatre as an actor and stage director.

His television credits include episodes of Dempsey and Makepeace (1985) and Dallas. He wrote the screenplay for the 1980 film The Mirror Crack'd and contributed to The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles (1992). Hales co-wrote the screenplay for Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002) with George Lucas and is credited with the story for The Scorpion King (2002).
