## Biography

José Fernández Aguayo, also credited as José F. Aguayo, was a Spanish cinematographer. Born in Madrid in 1911, he was the son of bullfighting photographer Baldomero Fernández Raigón. He began working in photography and entered the film industry as an assistant to cinematographer Enrique Guerner before debuting as director of photography on *Castañuela* (1945).

Aguayo worked on nearly 120 films until 1983. He collaborated with directors including Juan de Orduña and Rafael Gil, and is noted for his work with Luis Buñuel on *Viridiana* (1961) and *Tristana* (1970). Other credits include *El extraño viaje* (1964) and *Mi calle* (1960). He received the Goya de Honor in 1987 and died in Madrid on 11 May 1999.
