## Biography

Josep Iturbi Bàguena, also credited as José Iturbi, was a Spanish pianist, conductor and actor. Born in Valencia on 28 November 1895, he studied at the Paris Conservatoire and established an international career as a concert pianist before becoming a conductor, notably of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra from 1936 to 1944.

Iturbi appeared as himself in several Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer musical films. These include *Thousands Cheer* (1943), *Music for Millions* (1944), *Anchors Aweigh* (1945), *Three Daring Daughters* (1948) and *That Midnight Kiss* (1949). He died in Los Angeles on 28 June 1980.
