## Biography

José Miguel Tobar is a Chilean composer. He trained in musical composition at the Universidad de Chile and began working in television in 1982, where he met pianist and keyboardist José Miguel Miranda. The pair formed the duo Miranda y Tobar and have since composed extensively for film, television, documentaries, theatre and advertising.

Tobar is credited, often with Miranda, on scores including *Machuca* (2004), *Nostalgia for the Light* (2010), *Violeta Went to Heaven* (2011), *The Pearl Button* (2015), *The Eternal Memory* (2023) and *In Her Place* (2024). Their work has received awards such as the Georges Delerue Prize for *Machuca* and the Huelva Ibero-American Film Festival prize for best music for *Amnesia* (1994).

Tobar was born on 1 September 1956 in Santiago.
