## Biography

Joseph C. Wright (1892–1985) was an American art director and production designer. Born in Chicago, Illinois, he worked on more than 80 films from 1923 to 1969, with a long association with 20th Century Fox where he contributed to many of the studio’s colour musicals and prestige productions.

He won two Academy Awards for Best Art Direction, for *This Above All* (1942) and *My Gal Sal* (1942), and received ten further nominations. His credits include production design on *The Man with the Golden Arm* (1955) and art direction on *Gentlemen Prefer Blondes* (1953), *Guys and Dolls* (1955), *Oklahoma!* (1955), *Days of Wine and Roses* (1962) and *Walk Don’t Run* (1966).
