## Biography

Joseph Egger, also credited as Josef Egger, was an Austrian character actor. He began his stage career at the age of 18 at the theatre in Leoben and later appeared at the Raimund Theater in Vienna and the Deutsches Theater in Munich. He was also a music hall comedian known for tricks with his beard.

Egger appeared in 76 films between 1935 and 1965, specialising in eccentric old men in supporting roles. During the 1950s he took comedic parts in numerous Austrian Heimatfilms. His final film appearances were as Piripero in *A Fistful of Dollars* (1964) and the Old Prophet in *For a Few Dollars More* (1965).
