He began his film career in 1914 and appeared in seventeen films between 1914 and 1917. He is best known for his portrayal of Abraham Lincoln in D. W. Griffith's *The Birth of a Nation* (1915), on which he also worked as editor and assistant director. Henabery served as second-unit director on Griffith's *Intolerance* (1916), in which he also acted. He went on to direct feature films for studios including First National and Paramount, working with stars such as Douglas Fairbanks, Roscoe Arbuckle and Rudolph Valentino.
