## Biography

Joseph R. Jennings (1921–2015) was an American art director and production designer. He worked extensively in television from the late 1960s, serving as art director on the series *Gunsmoke* (1967–1975, 150 episodes) and the miniseries *Roots* (1977) and *Shōgun* (1980). His film credits as production designer include *Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan* (1982), *Yellowbeard* (1983) and *Johnny Dangerously* (1984).

Jennings was art director on *Star Trek: The Motion Picture* (1979), earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Art Direction. He also contributed production design to the miniseries *North and South* (1985) and other television projects through the early 1990s.
