Joseph Vitale was an American character actor who appeared in films and on television from the 1940s to the 1960s.

He began his career on stage in 1923, touring in the Shubert production of *The Student Prince*, and later appeared in Broadway productions including *Yes, Yes, Yvette*, *Golden Dawn*, *Sweet Adeline*, *Present Arms*, *Flying High*, *The Gang’s All Here*, *The Little Dog Laughed*, *Hold On to Your Hat*, *I’d Rather Be Right* and *Common Ground* (1945).

Vitale’s film credits include *Road to Rio* (1947) as Tony, *The Paleface* (1948) as Indian Scout, *A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court* (1949) as Sir Logris, *Fancy Pants* (1950) as Wampum and *Apache Rifles* (1964) as Victorio. He also appeared in television series such as *Adventures of Superman*, *Rawhide* (as Chief) and others. He died in Granada Hills, California, in 1994.
