Josephine Whittell, also credited as Josephine Cunningham, was an American character actress. Born in San Francisco, she began her career as a chorus girl and appeared in several Broadway productions in the 1910s and 1920s, including *The Only Girl* and *No, No, Nanette*. She made her film debut in the silent era with a featured role in *Alimony* (1917) and returned to cinema in 1931 after a hiatus.

Whittell appeared in more than 70 films over a career spanning 1916 to 1959. She played Mrs. Dunk in *It's a Gift* (1934) and had supporting or uncredited roles in films including *The Women* (1939), *Stage Door* (1937), *The Fountainhead* (1949), *A Place in the Sun* (1951) and *A Star Is Born* (1954). She was married to actor Robert Warwick.
