## Biography

Jozef van Wissem is a Dutch minimalist composer and lute player. Born in Maastricht in 1962, he studied the lute in New York with Patrick O’Brien in the 1990s and has since developed a practice that merges Renaissance and Baroque forms with drones, electronics and field recordings.

He is best known for his collaboration with filmmaker Jim Jarmusch. Van Wissem composed music for the 2013 film *Only Lovers Left Alive*, for which he shared the Cannes Soundtrack Award. He has released several albums with Jarmusch and scored other projects including the video game *The Sims Medieval* (2011) and films such as *Irma Vep* (2022).
