## Biography

Judith Light is an American actress. She was born on 9 February 1949 in Trenton, New Jersey, and graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a BFA in drama. She made her professional stage debut in 1970 and her Broadway debut in the 1975 revival of *A Doll's House*.

Light's television breakthrough came as Karen Wolek on the soap opera *One Life to Live* (1977–1983), for which she won two Daytime Emmy Awards. She later starred as Angela Bower on the sitcom *Who's the Boss?* (1984–1992). In 2014 she began playing Shelly Pfefferman on the series *Transparent*, a role that earned her Golden Globe, Primetime Emmy and Critics' Choice Television Award nominations.

On stage she won Tony Awards for Best Featured Actress in a Play for *Other Desert Cities* (2012) and *The Assembled Parties* (2013). She has also appeared in *Ugly Betty*, *Law & Order: Special Victims Unit* and films including *The Menu* (2022) and *tick, tick... BOOM!* (2021).
