## Biography

Judy Parfitt is an English actress. She trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, graduating in 1953, and began her career on stage the following year.

She is known for her role as Mildred Layton in the 1984 television series *The Jewel in the Crown*, for which she received a BAFTA TV Award nomination. Other credits include Vera Donovan in *Dolores Claiborne* (1995), Maria Thins in *Girl with a Pearl Earring* (2003), for which she earned a BAFTA Film Award nomination, Mrs Durham in *Maurice* (1987), and Sister Monica Joan in *Call the Midwife* (2012–2026).

Parfitt has appeared in numerous other films and series, including *EverAfter* (1998), *ER* (1994), *Agatha Christie's Poirot* (1989), *Murder, She Wrote* (1984), *Midsomer Murders* (1997) and *King Ralph* (1991).
