## Biography

Julia Phillips (née Miller) was an American film producer. With her then-husband Michael Phillips and Tony Bill she co-produced *The Sting* (1973), which won the Academy Award for Best Picture; she was the first woman to win the award as a producer. She also produced *Taxi Driver* (1976) and *Close Encounters of the Third Kind* (1977).

Born in New York City in 1944, Phillips graduated from Mount Holyoke College and worked in publishing and as a story editor before forming Bill/Phillips Productions in the early 1970s. In 1991 she published the memoir *You'll Never Eat Lunch in This Town Again*, a bestseller that recounted her Hollywood career.

Phillips died in West Hollywood, California, in 2002.
