## Biography

Julian Blaustein (1913–1995) was an American film producer. A graduate of Harvard University, he began his career in 1934 as a script reader at Universal Pictures, later heading story departments at Universal, MCA and Paramount. During the Second World War he served with the US Army Signal Corps, producing training films.

After the war he joined David O. Selznick Productions as editorial supervisor. In 1949 he moved to 20th Century Fox as a producer and later executive producer. He became an independent producer in 1955. His credits include *Broken Arrow* (1950), *The Day the Earth Stood Still* (1951), *Don't Bother to Knock* (1952), *Désirée* (1954), *Cowboy* (1958), *Bell, Book and Candle* (1958), *The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse* (1962) and *Khartoum* (1966). He also served as executive producer on *The Beguiled* (1971).

Blaustein was a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences from 1946 and initiated its Don and Gee Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting. After retiring from film production he taught screenwriting and film production at Stanford University for thirteen years.
