## Biography

Julian Simpson is a British writer and director working in film, television and audio. He made his directorial debut at the age of 23 with the feature film *The Criminal* (1999), for which he also wrote the screenplay.

In television he has directed episodes of *Spooks* (2005–2006), *Doctor Who* (2011), *Hustle* (2009), *Hotel Babylon* (2008) and *The Inspector Lynley Mysteries* (2005). He wrote and directed multiple episodes of *New Tricks* between 2008 and 2015. He has also worked as a writer on several of these series.

Simpson has written and directed award-winning audio dramas for BBC Radio 4, including *Bad Memories* (2011) and *Fugue State* (2016), the latter of which won the Tinniswood Award.
