## Biography

Julien Duvivier was a French film director and screenwriter. He began his career as an actor in 1916 at the Théâtre de l'Odéon before moving to Gaumont in 1918, where he worked as a writer and assistant to directors including André Antoine, Louis Feuillade and Marcel L'Herbier.

Duvivier directed nearly 70 films between 1919 and 1967. He was prominent in French cinema from the 1930s to the 1960s. His credits include *Pépé le Moko* (1937), on which he served as director and co-writer of the screenplay; *La Bandera* (1935); *Panique* (1947); *The Little World of Don Camillo* (1952); and *Diabolically Yours* (1967). He also directed *Anna Karenina* (1948) and worked in Hollywood during the 1940s.
