We value her warmth in *Oldboy*, where she belongs among the cruelty, and regret that later roles have not always given her as much to do. In *Oldboy* (2003), Kang Hye-jung makes Mi-do's warmth feel plausible amid the cruelty. Park Chan-wook's revenge thriller needs her to be sympathetic without seeming to belong in a different film, and she manages it. We found her presence a relief, because she lets us care about Mi-do without making the surrounding danger feel any less real.
