## Biography

Karen Hall is an American television writer and producer. She was born on 2 June 1956 in Chatham, Virginia. She graduated with a B.A. in English from the College of William and Mary in 1978 and received an M.F.A. in playwriting from the University of Virginia in 1979.

Hall began her television career as a story editor on *Eight Is Enough* (1977) and as a writer on *M*A*S*H* (1980–1983), where she became the show's first female staff writer. She has written for numerous series including *Hill Street Blues* (1981), *Moonlighting* (1985), *Northern Exposure* (1990), *Judging Amy* (1999), *The Good Wife* (2009) and *Quantum Leap* (1989). She has also written the novel *Dark Debts* (1996).

Hall has received seven Primetime Emmy Award nominations, a Writers Guild of America Award, the Humanitas Prize and the Women in Film Luminas Award.
