## Biography

Karl Hajos (also credited as Carl Hajos) was a Hungarian composer who worked on numerous film scores from the late silent era through the 1940s. Born Károly Hajós in Budapest on 28 January 1889, he studied at the University of Budapest and the Academy of Music there. He wrote several operettas in Europe before emigrating to the United States in 1924.

Hajos settled in Hollywood and contributed to films for Paramount Pictures and other studios, often providing original music or songs, sometimes uncredited. His credits include *Morocco* (1930), *Dishonored* (1931), *Shanghai Express* (1932), *American Madness* (1932), *The Story of Temple Drake* (1933) and *Werewolf of London* (1935). He was nominated for Academy Awards for the scores of *Summer Storm* (1944) and *The Man Who Walked Alone* (1945).

Hajos died in Hollywood on 1 February 1950.
