## Biography

Karla Castañeda is a Mexican stop-motion animator and director. She studied communication sciences at the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Occidente (ITESO) in Guadalajara and painting and illustration at the Facultad de Bellas Artes de Pontevedra in Spain.

Castañeda directed the award-winning short films *Jacinta* (2008) and *La Noria* (2012), both recipients of Ariel Awards for best animated short. She contributed to production design and art direction on *Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio* (2022) at the Guadalajara studio and has collaborated with del Toro on other projects.
