Kate Walsh, also credited as Kathleen Erin Walsh, is an American actress. She was born on 13 October 1967 in San Jose, California, and grew up partly there and partly in Tucson, Arizona. She attended the University of Arizona, where she became involved in regional theatre, before moving to Chicago to work with the Piven Theatre Workshop and the Chicago Shakespeare Repertory. She later performed in New York with the comedy troupe Burn Manhattan.

Walsh's first major television role was as Niki Fifer on The Drew Carey Show. She is best known for playing Dr Addison Montgomery on the ABC series Grey's Anatomy (2005–2012, with later returns) and its spin-off Private Practice (2007–2013). Other notable credits include roles in 13 Reasons Why (2017–2019), The Umbrella Academy (2019–2024), and the film The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012).
