## Biography

Kathleen Ryan (1922–1985) was an Irish actress. She made her screen debut as Kathleen Sullivan in Carol Reed's *Odd Man Out* (1947), opposite James Mason. Her other early roles included appearances in *Captain Boycott* (1947) and the American production *The Sound of Fury* (1950).

Ryan performed in theatre with the Dublin Abbey Players and at the Gate Theatre before entering films. Between 1947 and 1957 she appeared in around a dozen British and Hollywood features, working with actors including Rock Hudson, Dirk Bogarde and Stewart Granger. She was married to Dermod Devane from 1944; the marriage was annulled in 1958. A 1941 portrait of her by Louis le Brocquy, 'Girl in White', is held in a museum collection.
