## Biography

Katie Johnson (born Bessie Kate Johnson) was an English actress. She appeared on stage from 1894 and in films from the 1930s, typically in supporting roles as elderly characters.

She is best known for her performance as Mrs Louisa Wilberforce in the Ealing comedy *The Ladykillers* (1955), for which she received the BAFTA Award for Best British Actress. Other screen credits include *Gaslight* (1940), *I See a Dark Stranger* (1946) and *The Quatermass Experiment* (1953). She also appeared in *How to Murder a Rich Uncle* (1957).

In 1908 she married the actor Frank Goodenough Bayly, who died in 1923. Johnson died on 4 May 1957 in Elham, Kent.
